Bear Grylls

Bear Grylls * Man vs. Wild

Bear Grylls was born on June 7, 1974. Bear Grylls is not his real name. Bear Grylls' real name is Edward Michael Grylls. Bear was raised in Donaghadee, Northern Ireland; then moved to the Isle of Wight at age 4. Grylls has a degree in Hispanic studies from the University of London. After school, Bear Grylls spent three years with the SAS special forces of the British army. During this time, he suffered a parachuting accident in Zambia, Africa where he broke his back in three places. Bear spent the next 18 months in military rehabilitation.

Grylls dreamed of climbing Mount Everest. He did so at age 23 while a London University student. Bear Grylls' advice on how to keep climbing and reaching your goals is "the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is often just that little word extra."

Bear Grylls is a best-selling author and tv star now. His hit television show, Man VS. Wild (known as Born Survivor in the UK).

Grylls has a blackbelt in karate, and also studies yoga and ninjutsu.

Bear Grylls on a Raft

Bear Grylls married Shara Cannings Knight in 2000. Bear and wife Shara have three sons...Jesse, Marmaduke, and Huckleberry.

Grylls' book Facing Up (known as The Kid who Climbed Everest in the U.S.) was a best-seller.

Man vs. Wild began airing in 2006. The show follows Bear Grylls as he teaches wilderness survival techniques from various exotic locations. During survival situations, Bear Grylls is seen eating insects like grubs, worms, spiders, and scorpions. One of my favorite scenes showed Bear Grylls using in Iceland using his showlace to tie around a piece of raw sheep meat to dunk it into the steaming hot springs to cook it. Another favorite show of mine followed Bear Grylls through the Baja peninsula of Mexico where he was stung by a bee between the eyes while trying to get honey from a beehive. Bear's eyes swole up making it difficult for him to see. During the same show, Bear Grylls drank his own pee to demonstrate how it could be done in survival situations.
Bear Grylls recently filmed an episode of Man vs. Wild in northern Sweden with special guest Will Ferrell to air in 2010.
Grylls will star in a new Dos Equis beer commercial as the most interesting man character.
